General Catalog:

Continuation of 20L:001 (CLSL:1001).

Description:

Continuation of 20L:001/CLSL:1001, which is prerequisite. Using Wheelock's Latin (Chapters 21-35), students continue to learn the fundamentals (forms, syntax, and vocabulary) while reading excerpts from ancient Roman authors and learning about Roman history and culture. Grades are based on daily assignments, weekly quizzes, and four exams. While the emphasis is on translating from Latin to English, some composing from English to Latin also is required. An attendance requirement permits seven absences before grade is lowered. A variety of support materials is available, including on-line help and a tutoring service. The course is taught by qualified graduate students supervised by a professor. Students who complete this course are prepared to enter 20L:011/CLSL:2001 World of Cicero.
